Julio Iglesias wows thousands of fans in Sharjah concert debut

It was a night of magical music at Al Majaz Amphitheatre, in the heart of the picturesque Buheirah in Sharjah, as one of the most celebrated singers and musical geniuses took the stage on Tuesday night. Internationally acclaimed, Grammy Award-winning singer and song writer Julio Iglesias cast a spell on his audience, wowing and entertaining thousands of music lovers till late into the night.
Returning to the region after a long time and performing for the first time in the emirate of Sharjah, held against the spectacular backdrop of the Buheirah Corniche, the Latin music legend did not disappoint his fans. He treated his audience to a number of hit songs and chartbusters from his most popular albums as well as more recent ones, leaving his thousands of fans demanding for more.
Iglesias’ music is known for its celebration of love, peace, tolerance and humanity, the values that are championed and cherished by Sharjah and the UAE. The Julio Iglesias concert is part of Sharjah’s ongoing efforts to promote a culture of arts and appreciation of music in the Emirate. Al Majaz Amphitheatre, managed by Sharjah Media Centre, is at the forefront of this movement to enrich the art and cultural scene in the UAE and the region, providing quality and healthy entertainment with a moral purpose to the public.
Al Majaz Amphitheatre has hosted some of the biggest names in music from both the East and West to entertain music lovers in Sharjah and the UAE. Earlier, speaking to journalists from the UAE, Iglesias said that music is the perfect instrument and platform to bring people together no matter what borders, colour or creed they represent and that he was happy to be part of Sharjah’s efforts to promote understanding and dialogue between various cultures.
The celebrated singer and song writer said he was „super excited” about returning to the UAE and performing at a great venue like Al Majaz Amphitheatre in Sharjah. Al Majaz Amphitheatre was inaugurated by H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, in 2014 as part of the celebrations crowning Sharjah as the Islamic Culture Capital for 2014. The Roman colosseum-style amphitheatre opened with the premiere of epic oratorio Clusters of Light, retracing the remarkable journey of Islam and its essential message of peace and humanity.
Legendary Julio Iglesias to rock Sharjah in first-ever Al Majaz concert
After spectacular performances by popular Arab and Western singers such as Majida El Roumi, Kazem Al Sahir, Yanni and, most recently, Marcel Khalife, Al Majaz Amphitheatre, Sharjah, is all set to host the Grammy Award-winning Spanish singer and songwriter Julio Iglesias, who has more than 300 million records in 14 languages and 80 albums to his credit making him one of the best-selling artists of all time, on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2016.
With a career spanning nearly five decades, Iglesias, who also happens to be the father of Latin pop sensation Enrique Iglesias, came up with ‘Julio Iglesias’ Milestones’ in 1970 and has not stopped since. He holds two Guinness World Book of Records distinctions for selling the largest number of records in most languages (1983) and the Best Selling Male Latin Artist (2013).
The Julio Iglesias concert is the latest of Al Majaz Amphitheatre’s initiatives launched as part of Sharjah’s efforts to promote the appreciation of art and nourish cultural sensibilities in the Emirate. Al Majaz Amphitheatre itself has been part of the movement by the Emirate to enrich the art and cultural scene in the UAE and the region, providing quality and healthy entertainment with a purpose to the public.
From performing for the first time in Madison Square Gardens in New York in 1976 to record-breaking performances in Chile, Japan, Brazil, Colombia and around the world all these years, Julio Iglesias has come a long way and has many firsts to his credit.
For instance, he sold more than 1,200,000 copies of his album „De niña a mujer”, in just six months in Japan, and he sold more than 2,000,000 copies of the same album in Brazil in 11 months. Julio Iglesias has earned a number of prestigious awards and honours, like the coveted Grammy, acknowledging his preeminent position as one of the world’s most popular artistes and musicians.

Julio Iglesias receives an award in South Africa for breaking the record of 500,000 albums sold

Julio Iglesias triumphs wherever he goes, continuing to register successes year after year. On this occasion the artist was the recipient of an award in South Africa for breaking the record of 500,000 albums sold, becoming one of only three artists at global level who have received this accolade. Coinciding with his concert in Johannesburg, Julio Iglesias, smiling and undoubtedly grateful, was presented with the coveted award by the director of Sony South Africa, a welcome homage that rewards his long professional career.
After travelling all over South Africa for a few days, he will move on to Argentina, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia and Malaysia, where his world tour will draw to a close. Julio Iglesias unquestionably remains unstoppable.
